Data-Driven Simulation of Manual Processes in Logistics

Data4Sim

Data4Sim is a new research and development project that has been successfully launched at the Chair of Conveying and Storage Technology. In collaboration with renowned partners from industry, MotionMiners GmbH and SDZ Simulations-Dienstleistungs-Zentrum GmbH, as well as leading research institutions such as the Institute for Visual & Analytic Computing at the University of Rostock, we have set ourselves the goal of optimizing the efficiency and ergonomics of manual work processes in logistics.

Project Objective in Brief

Manual workstations in the logistics industry continue to pose a challenge because they cannot be fully automated. To meet the demands of these processes, we rely on linking real movement data from the warehouse with the power of simulation methods. What makes our approach unique is the use of motion mining technology to capture manual workflows. This technology enables the precise recording of employee movements using wearable sensors, which are then analyzed using AI methods. The collected and analyzed data serves as the basis for the automatic development of realistic simulation models that were previously not feasible.

We are confident that Data4Sim will represent a significant step forward in the optimization of manual work processes in the logistics industry. Stay tuned!
