On September 4 and 5, 2024, the “AI24 – The Lamarr Conference” took place in Dortmund in cooperation with the Zukunftskongress Logistik. As part of the Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, the FLW was responsible for organizing the conference, which took place for the first time and brought together 670 participants from science, industry and politics in Dortmund’s Westfalenhallen.
AI24 provided a platform for discussing the latest developments and future prospects of artificial intelligence (AI). Topics such as generative AI models, current AI technologies for industry and logistics as well as global trends took center stage. A special highlight was the first presentation of the “Lamarr Award” to the internationally renowned AI expert from Standford University in California, Prof. Dr. Sebastian Thrun.
The conference was opened by prominent speakers, including Hendrik Wüst, Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Thomas Westphal, Mayor of the City of Dortmund, Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Federal Minister of Education and Research, and Ina Brandes, Minister of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Michael ten Hompel, Director of the Lamarr Institute and former Chair of the FLW, emphasized the importance of AI algorithms and machine learning for the future competitiveness of industry.
With their contributions, keynote speakers Amazon AGI expert Prof. Dr. Jens Lehmann on “Large Language Models LLM for Dialogue Systems” and Prof. Dr. Phil Diamond from the Square Kilometre Array Observatory on “AI in Astrophysics” showed perspectives for a new generation of AI assistants and pointed out the influence of AI on groundbreaking international research collaborations. The afternoon of the second day also offered in-depth topic and workshop sessions by leading national and international experts on various current AI application areas and solutions.
AI24 enabled participants to discuss the latest research findings and discover new potential for cooperation. The event promoted interdisciplinary dialog and networking between researchers and industrial players.
Rückblick auf die AI24 – The Lamarr Conference
Am 4. und 5. September 2024 fand in Dortmund die „AI24 – The Lamarr Conference“ in Kooperation mit dem Zukunftskongress Logistik statt. Als Teil des Lamarr-Instituts für Maschinelles Lernen und Künstliche Intelligenz zeichnete der FLW federführend verantwortlich für die Organisation der Konferenz, die erstmalig stattfand und 670 Teilnehmende aus Wissenschaft, Industrie und Politik in den Dortmunder Westfalenhallen versammelte.
Die AI24 bot eine Plattform für den Austausch über die neuesten Entwicklungen und Zukunftsperspektiven der Künstlichen Intelligenz (KI). Themen wie Generative KI-Modelle, aktuelle KI-Technologien für Industrie und Logistik sowie globale Trends standen im Mittelpunkt. Ein besonderes Highlight war die erstmalige Verleihung des „Lamarr Award“ an den international renommierten KI-Experten der kalifornischen Standford University Prof. Dr. Sebastian Thrun.
Eröffnet wurde die Konferenz von prominenten Rednern, darunter Hendrik Wüst, Ministerpräsident des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, Thomas Westphal, Oberbürgermeister der Stadt Dortmund, Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Bundesministerin für Bildung und Forschung, und Ina Brandes, Ministerin für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen. Prof. Dr. Michael ten Hompel, Direktor des Lamarr-Instituts und vormals Lehrstuhlinhaber des FLW, betonte in seiner Eröffnungsrede die Bedeutung von KI-Algorithmen und maschinellem Lernen für die zukünftige Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Industrie.
Mit ihren Beiträgen zeigten die Keynote-Speaker Amazon AGI-Experte Prof. Dr. Jens Lehmann zu „Large Language Models LLM for Dialogue Systems“ und Prof. Dr. Phil Diamond vom Square Kilometre Array Observatory zu „AI in Astrophysics“ Perspektiven für eine neue Generation von KI-Assistenten auf und wiesen auf den Einfluss der KI auf wegweisende internationale Forschungskooperationen hin. Der Nachmittag des zweiten Tages bot zudem vertiefende Themen- und Workshop-Sessions von führenden nationalen und internationalen Experten zu verschiedenen aktuellen KI-Anwendungsbereichen und -Lösungen.
Die AI24 ermöglichte es den Teilnehmenden, sich über aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse auszutauschen und neue Kooperationspotenziale zu entdecken. Die Veranstaltung förderte den interdisziplinären Dialog und die Vernetzung zwischen Forschenden und industriellen Akteuren.
